Turning around downtown San Antonio will take a village — specifically the one where the millionaires reside.

As the city of San Antonio embarks on its effort to revitalize downtown, to correct the tourist-local imbalance, it’s becoming clear to me that it can not happen without a philanthropic nudge here and there.

Having a champion, a face, to lead the charge helps.

As a public figure, Mayor Julián Castro has embraced the role by proclaiming this the “Decade of Downtown.” A focus of Castro’s citywide SA2020 plan is reviving the urban core.

Graham Weston, chairman and co-founder of Rackspace, seems to be leading the charge from the private side of the fence.
