An intense 6-week program for startups ready for prepare for early-stage investments.

What Happens

This is the only Pre-Accelerator offered in San Antonio for local tech startups and entrepreneurs.

Participation

Startup founders are invited to apply, and once selected, commit to meeting weekly as a cohort.

Pitching

Quality time is spent with mentors weekly to prepare founders for a Demo Day in front of hundreds.

Funding

Members with Alamo Angels graciously offer to invest funds in one or more of the featured businesses.

Nick Longo

Co-founder & Advisor in Residence, Geekdomkdom

A serial entrepreneur, Nick is Geekdom’s Co-founder and original Mentor-in-Chief.  He founded CoffeeCup Software & Bluedomino Web Hosting before selling both companies. He also helped Rackspace as the Director of Strategic Initiatives and has provided marketing and entrepreneurial support to Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi & San Antonio. This Rainmaker and Ideologist has mentored thousands of Startups in his 20+ year career in business and tech.

Mary Stich

VP, Deputy General Counsel, Rackspace

Mary has 30+ years of legal experience in the commercial and business arena. She is a former partner at Cox & Smith law firm (now Dykema) here in San Antonio. Mary has been a Racker for eight years. Her current role at Rackspace includes global responsibility for dispute resolution and litigation, employment law including support for HR issues, intellectual property litigation, insurance, and legal support and advice for other global corporate functions. She oversees, supports, and mentors a legal team that provides practical solutions to rapid fire legal and business risk issues around the globe. Mary and her colleagues support the efficient administration and operations of a global legal function for a fast-moving technology and services company. As she would say, “It’s a wild ride and we love it!” Mary co-founded and is Executive Sponsor of the global Mentor Circles program at Rackspace. Recently she was recognized by the San Antonio Business Journal as one of the city’s Outstanding Lawyers.

Jeff Hawthorne

Sr. VP & Private Banker, BBVA Global Wealth

Jeff Hawthorn is a Senior Vice President and Private Banker with BBVA Global Wealth who provides a unique perspective from 24 years of robust experience within the financial services industry. He enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 teenage sons, volunteering for the board of Youth Code Jam and is an active member of  Alamo Angels. Fun facts: Jeff has played the guitar since he was 12 and worked as a deckhand on a shrimp boat during the summers of his youth.

Rick Martinez

Founder & CEO, Green Seed Cannabis Co.

As a veteran, registered nurse, writer and successful entrepreneur, Rick

brings a wealth of experience – and tremendous passion – for impacting

lives. His story begins in the US Army, where Rick enlisted from 1988-1990.

He soon earned his BSN degree from the University of the Incarnate Word

and became a registered nurse (RN). After several years in nursing Rick’s entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and in 2001 he bootstrapped started his first business which he grew to over $52MM in annual revenue before his exit in 2014. From there he dove into advising, mentoring and Angel investing and soon found a unique way to help our veterans with PTSD and entered into the cannabis industry. He is now Founder and lead mentor of Green Seed Cannabis Co. (Texas’ first cannabis business accelerator program) and sits as an advisory board member for the H.E.B. School of Business at the University of The Incarnate Word.

Dave Geada

CEO, Big Purple Fish

Dave Geada is the CEO of Big Purple Fish  a digital marketing agency headquartered in the heart of downtown San Antonio that works with technology brands to help them grow their sales. Dave is a marketing professional with over 20 years of experience in high-tech marketing. Prior to founding Big Purple Fish, Dave worked at leading technology companies like Rackspace, Peer 1 Hosting, Network Solutions and Computer Associates, as well as innovative startups like Stratascale. Dave served as a change agent in his various roles at these companies, helping them to identify and enter new markets, devise effective marketing strategies, and deliver compelling multi-channel marketing programs that fueled growth.

Amanda Keammerer

Acting VP for Cybersecurity,
San Antonio Chamber of Commerce

Born and raised in San Antonio, Amanda Lee Keammerer is the Acting VP for Cybersecurity and Director of CyberSecurity San Antonio at the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. Amanda worked in DC for eight years, including communications and community engagement for non-profits, as well as federal cybersecurity and IT policy at the White House. Amanda has a Bachelors degree in Russian Studies from Smith College, and a Masters degree in Global Communication from The George Washington University.

Cole Wollak

Managing Director, RealCo.

Cole Wollak graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas with a degree in Engineering Science. After graduation, he went on the help run the first Techstars Cloud program in San Antonio and applied his technical background working at FlashScan3D where he led research and development on next generation fingerprinting devices. Cole continues to work with the Geekdom Fund conducting diligence and deal sourcing on early stage technology companies in Texas and has most recently moved into the Managing Director role at RealCo focusing on growing early stage B2B tech startups. Giving back, Cole teaches an upper level entrepreneurship course as an Adjunct Professor at Trinity University.

Lea Sims

Assistant VP, USAA Labs

Lea is the Assistant Vice President in Enterprise Innovation with responsibility leading the Member and Employee Innovation Programs. She joined USAA in 2006 and has since held the titles of Project Manager, Business Architect and Product Manager. Lea has over 15 years of experience providing and managing solutions in the financial services sector. At USAA, Lea has had the opportunity to work on creating innovative solutions for USAA member on usaa.com and on mobile.usaa.com. Lea is a graduate of Hollins University and previously held positions at US Global Investors and Arthur Andersen.

Jeremy Karney

Design Lead of the Storefront Design Team, USAA

Jeremy has been designing digital experiences for a wide variety of industries for over 20 years. He built his first website in 1998 and never looked back. Since then he has worked in a variety of industries including banking, not-for-profits, custom professional services, education and, last but definitely not least, craft beer. He has over a decade of leadership experience leading teams of 2-40 located around the world. Fast-paced and delivery driven environments are his sweet spot. He has recently carried that same level of energy and urgency into the corporate world where he leads high-performing design teams for USAA, a Fortune 100 Financial Company. If you asked him to break down his core components he would tell you that he is 60% Creator, 35% Creative and 5% Chips & Salsa.

Debra Innocenti-Placette

Partner at Innocenti-Jones, PLLC

As Partner at Innocenti Jones, PLLC, Debra startups in technology and Internet-related industries build their business and protect their intellectual property, and uses her tech acumen to assist non-tech clients navigate the complex, new-world legal issues presented by emerging technologies. She  was named Geekdom’s 2015 VIP Geek, a Tech Flash Rising Start by the San Antonio Business Journal, one of the Best Attorneys in Information Technology by San Antonio Scene Magazine, and a Texas Rising Star by Thomson and Reuters. Prior to her legal career, Debra was an instructor in the English-Communications department at St. Mary’s University.

David Jones

Alfred Mesquiti

Alfred Mesquiti is the founder and CEO of DeckSavvy, LLC – a presentation consulting practice that serves startups, corporations, and other organizations in high-impact storytelling designed for conversion. DeckSavvy provides content development, visual design, as well as training and education in presentation method to ignite the storyteller in everyone. A graduate of USC’s Marshall School of Business, he is an avid learner, tinkerer, and design enthusiast and collaborates with a variety of clients in the startup and technology community. Alfred is also a co-organizer of the San Antonio Founders’ Coffee Club – a group for other tech startup founders in San Antonio with over 400 members.

Kurt Kelley

CEO, Excelerate Technologies

Kurt is passionate about connecting people to others and new ideas, not to mention “things”. He started in the nineties with local Internet Service Providers before moving into IT as an entrepreneur and later was drafted into corporate where he established the Verizon Partner Program for the Central Texas region. After leaving, his focus was on globalization as a VP for a UK-based company in the telecommunications and the Internet of Things space. Now, with over twenty years of experience and has supported thousands of clients from large enterprise to startup, Kurt concentrates on helping companies both develop and operationalize technology strategies as well as innovative business models.

Adam Lotia

Futurist & Innovation Specialist, Freelance Jax

Adam who also known in some circles as Jax is a futurist, technologist and serial entrepreneur. He currently serves as CTO for a transporttation startup in Dallas and as a mentor for the Stadia Ventures Accelerator focused on eSports/gaming. In graduate school, Adam worked on building some of the first devices to broadcast video over the new LTE network deployed in the United States. Starting his career in innovation at the AT&T Foundry® Adam helped guide some of the future of telecom and connectivity.

Ann Ward

Presentation, Pitch & Communications Coach, Ward Certified

Ann Ward works with the best and the brightest to identify what’s standing between them and the message they want to convey. She meets professionals where they are geographically (and psychologically) to change behaviors and improve personal, employee, or team outcomes. With more than 20 years’ experience in customer service, sales, leadership and teams, Ann’s consulting focuses on identifying and developing solutions and “best practices” associated with growth, organizational change, and mergers in order to achieve improved customer interactions, and increased performance. Ann holds a Disney Certification, an MBA from Queen’s University, and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Guelph.

Judy Bragg

President & Founder, Bragg Resources

For over 25 years, Judy Bragg has used her extensive background in project management, marketing, banking, healthcare and information technology to work with companies of all sizes. Her skills include: Project Management – IT and Non-IT projects, CRM Consulting and Project Management. Judy is also a certified Project Management Professional, Certified Management Consultant, ToP Trained Facilitator, MCTS – Microsoft Dynamics CRM,

Peter Risman

Peter is a seasoned marketing leader with technology, SaaS/software, and services background. He has experience in B2B and B2C global marketing, and a proven ability to deliver results working across cultures and time zones. Peter’s career path reflects experience in myriad environments and corporate cultures: multinational corporations, small-to-mid agencies, and start-ups. He has proven expertise in marketing strategy, global marketing, partner marketing, digital marketing, social media, traditional media and communications, sales channel development, customer segmentation and analysis, and product management.

Alberto Pina

Founder, Braustin Mobile Homes

Affordable housing is Alberto’s passion and he believes there are innovations hiding in plain sight that can be applied to factory built housing to help tackle this problem for our country. As a startup founder, Alberto is on a quest with the Braustin team to inject tech into their systems to provide the best possible user experience to those families who call on Braustin to be their home builder. Braustin Mobile Homes created the first virtual mobile home dealership in the US and is on a mission to Bring Trust Back to Mobile Homes. Alberto’s expertise is in operations and team building, marketing and sales.

Luis Martinez, PHD

Director of Entrepreneurship, Trinity University

Martínez is the Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship where he teaches courses in entrepreneurship and innovation; mentors student startups; and facilitates connecting Trinity students and faculty with entrepreneurs and accredited investors. He is responsible for all aspects of Trinity’s Entrepreneurship program, Trinity’s Technology and Licensing efforts, and helping make every student, faculty, staff and alumni become more innovative and entrepreneurial. Over the past 5 years, he has facilitated the launch of over 30 Trinity student ventures.

After applying, 6 local startups are selected, based on certain criteria, to participate in the program. Company founders meet as a cohort to gain instruction and prepare pitch decks for investors on Demo Day.
