Filing Patents for Your Patent Portfolio with Matt Fagan
Join us for another wonderful Workshop Wednesday with Geekdom’s very own intellectual property master mentor, Matt Fagan!
Date: April 10th, 2024
Time: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
Location: Geekdom 6th Floor Core Classroom
Description:
If you create a successful business, what is to stop a competitor from copying all your hard work and offering up a competing product? For most companies, the answer is their patent portfolio.
In this workshop, we’ll discuss what patents are and how they are acquired. We’ll point out common landmines along the road to patent protection, like avoiding disclosures and obtaining inventor approval. We’ll walk through the patent process at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), learn about how international patent filings are handled, and briefly go over how to determine which foreign jurisdictions are worth filing in.
We’ll also compare and contrast patents to other types of intellectual property protection, such as copyrights or trade secrets.
