The Geekdom Incubator Program will start this month. This year’s program will have 10 startup companies participating. The Geekdom Incubator is a 10-week program designed to help first-time founders and early-stage entrepreneurs refine their startup ideas, learn business basics, build their network, and take the first steps towards traction. The program focuses on business concept validation, conducting customer and market research, identifying and building a prototype, and establishing an initial financial model.
“Geekdom is dedicated to supporting local entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey. Through our Geekdom Incubator, we’re helping early founders cultivate their idea, test it and give it shape so it can grow. We’re especially focused on helping these ventures find the support and opportunities they need to build their businesses here in San Antonio,” said Geekdom CEO Charles Woodin.
Officially launched in 2020, the Geekdom Incubator was created as a 12-month pilot program in partnership with the City of San Antonio’s Office of Innovation, focusing on civic technology and smart city solutions. This year, the Geekdom Incubator accepted startups from all industries and will run through the summer. In the future, the goal is to have the program occur multiple times per year. (Learn more about the companies in last year’s cohort by watching the 2021 Geekdom Incubator Showcase.)
Applications for the 2022 cohort opened in February 2022, and teams were selected for the program in April 2022. Beginning June 4, the 10 ventures chosen for the Geekdom Incubator will meet on Saturdays for 10 weeks. Each participating team receives access to tools, quality mentorship, workshops, professional development, and relationships with experts to help them build and grow essential aspects of their business. The teams are expected to meet program milestones and will share their progress at a community showcase on August 10.
