Cat Dizon Named Chair of Geekdom Board of Directors

Venture Capitalist Committed to Growing Local Startup Scene

(San Antonio, TX,  June 21, 2022) Cat Dizon, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Active Capital, has been elected chair of the board of directors for Geekdom, a collaborative startup community located in San Antonio’s downtown tech district. Dizon will lead the six-member board that supports Geekdom’s efforts to provide programs, events and co-working space for entrepreneurs and early-stage startup companies.

“It is a privilege to be elected as the new board chair of Geekdom, especially at this pivotal time in the San Antonio startup ecosystem. Geekdom’s mission to start and grow San Antonio startups has always been inspiring work to me, and I am excited to now contribute to it at a new level. Their leadership team has done incredible work to serve our local startups in so many meaningful ways, and that is why I am proud to step up and help deepen our commitment of support to the future of our startups in the community,” explained Dizon.

“Cat is a true champion of startup founders. More specifically, she cares about San Antonio entrepreneurs and shares our goals of building and retaining startup businesses that will fuel our local economy. After two years on the board, it’s wonderful to have her serve as chair,” said Charles Woodin, CEO of Geekdom.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cat as board chair of Geekdom. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Cat through her time at Rackspace and have seen her relentless commitment to our community over the years,” said Graham Weston, Geekdom co-founder.  “Her energy, enthusiasm and experience make her the perfect fit for the position, and I’m confident she will lead with grace and always do what’s best for the city and our community. We are truly a city on the rise.”

As COO of Active Capital, Dizon is focused on leading seed rounds for B2B SaaS (business-to-business, software-as-a-service) companies. Previously, she was the Executive Director of Alamo Angels, the San Antonio-based group of angel investors that invest in local and Texas-based startups. Before her venture experience, Dizon worked at Rackspace where she was Director of Corporate Strategy & Development leading in areas of mergers & acquisitions, post-merger integration, growth businesses and staff operations. Cat is a proud military spouse, a mother of one, and is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice, with an emphasis in legal studies.

Dizon succeeds Lorenzo Gomez as Geekdom’s board chair. Gomez served for 2.5 years and has recently launched WeTree, an interactive mental health app and website that offers users a space to be honest about their mental health with family and friends.

Dizon chairs the Geekdom board of directors, which also includes David Fonseca, CEO of Velocity TX; Alexandra Frey, Executive Director of 80|20 Foundation; Sean Patterson, Customer Engineer at Google; Bret Piatt, President & CEO of Jungle Disk; and Alberto Piña, CEO of Braustin Homes.
